Judges Information

Thanks to dedicated community members like you, Fairbanks History Day continues to thrive in its 22nd year. Your expertise is a critical component behind the success of our local effort. We expect another strong and diverse pool of submissions this year. Fairbanks History Day will kick off Monday, February 10th with our judges training at 6pm. The Exhibit will open for judging at 6:30pm sharp!

This year, we face the challenge of finding a new home for our competition and exhibit. The Pioneer Park Civic Center was condemned until essential repairs can be made. (What an excellent topic for History Day!). This year, the competition will take place at the JP Jones Community Center, located at 2400 Rickert Street.

Our yearly training is scheduled for Monday Feb. 10th at 6:00pm
If this time is inconvenient, but you still would like a refresher, at your convenience, I can spend a few minutes reviewing the judging process.  This year’s theme is "Breaking Barriers". See the right-hand column for a narrative of this year's theme and Youtube webinars by award-winning historian and documentarian, Ken Burns.

Exhibits are available to judge from:

Monday, Feb. 10th from 6:30-8pm

Tuesday, Feb. 11th from 10am to 6pm

Wednesday, Feb. 12th from 10am to 6pm

On location, you will receive an envelope that includes your judging assignment, a sufficient number of scoring sheets, and “Tips for Judging.” sheet.  For your convenience, a scoring rubric and judging tips are located in the right-hand column.  These documents will also be available on site.

**If you are assigned to judging websites, papers, documentaries or performances, you will be sent an email with scoring sheets and web links to the projects.

In closing, I’d like to extend my appreciation for your continued support.  You are, of course, invited to the Awards Ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Feb.14th at 10am, at the JP Jones Community Center, 2400 Rickert Street.
